About Lehre@math.LMU

The name Lehre@LMU (Teaching@LMU) has stood for the central concept for further developing the quality of teaching and studies at LMU since 2012. Across the university, it encompasses a wide range of projects, innovative teaching concepts and other measures to support all LMU students.

Within the framework of Teaching@LMU, the areas of strengthening the research orientation, strengthening the practice orientation and additional tutorials are particularly promoted. Aims of the measures are

  • the promotion of students' engagement with research-relevant issues already during their studies
  • the promotion of contacts in professional practice during the studies and keeping in contact beyond that, and
  • Measures for the professional and didactic qualification of student tutors.

Since the start of Teaching@LMU in 2012, Faculty 16 and thus in particular the Institute of Mathematics has been involved in the program with several projects. The Faculty was able to convince with its initial funding application in 2012 as well as with the renewal applications in 2014 and 2016.

The concept provides for individual projects within the three institutes, which are supported by a large number of professors and staff. This is to ensure that the projects benefit the widest possible range of students. On the other hand, the cooperation between the three institutes (computer science, mathematics, statistics) is to be expanded within the faculty. Examples of this are

  • the student research congresses, at which students from all institutes report on their research projects
  • the projects Start@F16.LMU and TutorInnenausbildungen@F16.LMU in which faculty-wide support for students, especially in the first semesters, and the training of student tutors is being worked on.
